Long Pass filters stop lower wavelengths of light from passing through the filter.This then only allows the longer wavelengths of light to pass through hence the name Long Pass filters. Short Pass stops all light of a longer wavelength from passing through the filter. Only the shorter wavelength light passes through the filter so the name Short Pass filters. By using dichroic filters and band pass filters, you can detect certain wavelengths of light, hence different cell components.
